Data Analyst Intern (Fall/Winter 2021)

The Data Analyst Intern will assist in designing and analyzing original survey research and  work with the data team to develop internal and external-facing data analysis products. 

Citizen is a rapidly-growing company. We are seeking a Data Analyst Intern with an innovative, entrepreneurial spirit who can be part of a team pushing the company forward and keep it on the cutting edge of data science and public policy and political research. 

You’re the right candidate for this role if you’re passionate about working across differences to bridge divides and have experience in survey design & methodology, statistical modeling, and data visualization, along with proficiency in software tools used in quantitative social science research.

What you’ll do:

  • Work with the data team to design and analyze original survey research
  • Produce static and dynamic data visualizations to communicate with a wide range of audiences ranging from the public to advocacy organizations to academics and technical experts
  • Develop a deep understanding of Citizen’s data and convey that understanding to others 
  • Work with the data team to program surveys and use a combination of survey and voter data to develop novel insights for Citizen’s partners
  • Learn essential tools of data management and analysis, including R, Python, Tableau, and SQL

Skills/Experience/Interests:

  • Pursuing (or completed) a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative social science (e.g., economics, political science), or a related discipline
  • Experience in statistical analysis of observational and experimental data, particularly survey data, preferred 
  • Coursework and/or research experience in inferential statistics, preferred
  • Experience in survey design and programming, preferred
  • Experience working with R and Qualtrics, preferred
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and preference for a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Interest in a career in public policy or non-partisan politics, and commitment to Citizen’s mission
  • Ability to convey information clearly, both written and verbal

About our Internships:

We offer fall-semester, spring-semester, and summer internships. At Citizen Data, you’ll be part of a highly collaborative, hardworking, and innovative team that is dedicated to using data to bridge divides. 

We’re committed to making sure your internship is educational and challenging. Fall/Winter 2021 interns can either choose to be paid $15.00/hour or receive academic credit for their work. 

Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week.

Duration: We will work with your schedule to coordinate on a start and end date.

Data Engineering Intern (Fall/Winter 2021)

The Data Engineering Intern will assist in improving and documenting Citizen’s data infrastructure and will have the opportunity to collaborate on external and internal facing data analytic projects. 

Citizen is a rapidly-growing company. We are seeking a Data Engineering Intern with an innovative, entrepreneurial spirit who can be part of a team pushing the company forward and keep it on the cutting edge of data science.

You’re the right candidate for this role if you’re passionate about working across differences to bridge divides and have experience and/or interest in data modeling, and in building data pipelines or large-scale database systems and have some experience with the tools that are used to manage them.

What you’ll do:

  • Work with the data team to improve Citizen’s data infrastructure
  • Assist the data team with survey organization and cleaning
  • Set up automated processes of data retrieval and updating
  • Develop a deep understanding of Citizen’s data and convey that understanding to others 
  • Work closely with Citizen’s data analytics team and produce insights for Citizen’s partners
  • Learn essential tools of data management and data science, including Amazon Web Services, Python, and SQL

Skills/Experience/Interests:

  • Pursuing (or completed) a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in data science, economics, computer science, statistics, mathematics, or a related technical discipline
  • Experience working Python, SQL, and/or AWS preferred
  • Interest in pursuing a career in data engineering, database management, or data science
  • Interest in a career in policy or non-partisan politics
  • Commitment to Citizen’s mission
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and preference for a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • A detail-oriented mindset and problem-solver mentality
